Scarsdale
is an exceptional residential community located 24 miles north of
New York City in beautiful Westchester County. Settled in 1701,
the first United States census of 1790 listed Scarsdale's six and
a half square miles as having 281 inhabitants. The 1990 census
shows the Village now includes 5,200 families with a population of
more than 17,000. Scarsdale
has consistently been rated as a leading upscale community in the
United States with an outstanding school system with 99% of its
graduates consistently going on to higher education and having the
highest SAT scores in all of Westchester. Its Scarsdale Adult
Schools offers a wide range of curriculum in both day and evening
courses. The highly regarded Recreation Department maintains over
20 parks and playgrounds (exclusive of school grounds), 26 public
tennis courts and a municipal pool, as well as an extensive
program of sports for all ages. Also within the borders of
Scarsdale are two 18-hole golf courses. The
downtown Village Center, with its elegant Tudor architecture,
encompasses stores, professional offices and residential units,
surrounded by numerous parks and extensive green spaces.
