The Town of
Southeast, NY, which was founded in 1788, is located at the
crossroads of Interstate highways Route 684 and Route 84, and
State Routes 22, 312, 6 and 202. Metro-North Railroad's Harlem
Line has two stops that service the area at Brewster Village and
Southeast Station off Route 312. The Town's population of 17,316
makes it the second largest town in Putnam County, NY.
Southeast is one
of the fastest growing municipalities in Putnam County. Brewster
Village, approximately one square mile, is located in the center
of the Town. Town government works with the Village, County, State
and Federal Agencies to enhance life in Southeast.

Southeast
is home to a number of designated historic sites, including the Old
Southeast Church and Old Doansburg Schoolhouse, Old Town Hall, and
the Walter Brewster House. In addition to numerous homes and sites
of historic interest from the 18th and 19th centuries, Southeast
also boasts the Milltown Area and Starr Ridge historic districts.
Established
in 1963, the Southeast Museum offers exhibits on the history of the
Town of Southeast, including the early American Circus, the Harlem
line Railroad, the Tilly Foster Mine, the Borden Milk Condensery,
and the Croton Reservoir System. The Southeast Museum is
dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the material
artifacts and culture significant to the history of the Town of
Southeast and its environs.
